Guatemala & Honduras Tour Itinerary

Itinerary:

Guatemala City, Guatemala: our starting city, it is Guatemala's capital and the largest city in Central America, offering all the modern conveniences of an urban metropolis, as well as the main cathedral and central plaza, parks, markets, shopping districts and a variety of restaurants.

Lake Atitlan: also in the highlands, this beautiful lake is formed from a collapsed volcanic cone. It is surrounded by charming towns and verdant hills, while three volcanoes stand sentinel to the south.

Chichicastenango: located in the highlands, surrounded by valleys and mountains, this quaint town of narrow cobblestone streets is most famous for its very large Thursday and Sunday indigenous markets, catering to both locals and tourists. It is also known for its pre-Christian beliefs and rites.

Antigua: one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Central America, it is surrounded by three volcanoes, offering spectacular views. It is a very well-preserved colonial town, with cobblestone streets, terracotta roofs, beautiful colonial buildings, ruins and churches, offering a charm all its own.

Tikal ruins, Guatemala: spectacular Mayan ruins that rise out of the jungle. Amazing temples break through the jungle canopy to offer beautiful views, while howler monkeys and a multitude of birds offer a background concert.

Copan ruins and the town of Copan: beautiful Mayan ruins, spread out over a large area and offering numerous well-preserved structures, with many smaller ones still being uncovered. It is just 12 kilometers from the Guatemalan border. The nearby town of Copan is charming and peaceful, with cobblestone streets and red-tile roofs.

Trujillo: a very attractive coastal town, it offers beautiful beaches and a quiet, relaxing atmosphere.

Roatan Island: the largest and most popular of the Bay Islands, it offers spectacular snorkeling and diving, pristine and secluded white-sand beaches, and unspoiled natural beauty. It is a 1.5 - 2 hour ferry ride from the mainland.

La Ceiba: a large port town, it has plenty of good restaurants, and is home to the ferry for Roatan Island.

Tela: a small and quiet Honduran Caribbean beach town, with great beaches, seafood and a relaxing atmosphere.

Valle de Angeles, Ojojona, Santa Lucia: 3 small towns located in the hills surrounding Tegucigalpa, they each offer peaceful plazas, quiet little streets, and plenty of local crafts, such as woodwork, basketry, ceramics, leatherwork and paintings.

Tegucigalpa, Honduras: our ending point, it is the capital of Honduras, with plenty to offer, including the cathedral, central plaza, museums, parks, modern shopping districts and very good restaurants.
